Celebrating Courage

Event Details from the Weekend

On August 11th - 13th, 2018, we held Celebrating Courage Weekend, which was a celebration to the life and legacy of local leader John L. Hairston. We held an array of events over the weekend that brought the community together to sing, eat, and enjoy fellowship with one another. The primary focus of the weekend was a screening of Celebrating Courage, an original documentary about the life of John L. Hairston, who led the integration of the local community. On Monday, the final day of the celebration, included a visit from Rev. William Barber, II and Former Vice President Al Gore and Karenna Gore.

The film, along with two mini-documentaries capturing the community from the Celebrating Courage Weekend, will continued to be used as an educational resource for the community. The films are available to be screened at community events.
